The word freedom is heavily charged emotionally. In fact, its connotations are almost exclusively positive. It is hard to imagine anyone declaring that they are fundamentally opposed to it. Yet, across the history and across the borders atrocities have been committed in the name of freedom. It seems that freedom stands as a sacred value, essential for democracies and therefore it enjoys a sort of immunity. But not everyone is entitled to use that freedom. There is for example a never-ending conflict between "freedom to" and "freedom from".

The seminar hopes to examine this friction. Why is intersectional gender equality taking so long? How do we fight sexism without ignoring other issues such as race, disability, sexuality and class? How do we make it possible for female voices and bodies to occupy public spaces without fear of reprisals?

The seminar will be divided in two parts. The first part will be a conversation between the panelists, the second will be a 60 minutes concert with Tania Saleh. 

PANEL: 
Zanele Muholi (ZA) is a photographer and visual activist. Her art is deeply intertwined with her advocacy on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) community. 

Rania Elias (PS) is the director of Yabous Cultural Centre - مركز يبوس الثقافيand of the Jerusalem Festival in Jerusalem. 

Tania Saleh (LB) is a contemporary alternative Lebanese singer/songwriter/visual artist. 

Moeisha Ali Aden (SO/DN) is a muslim, trans performative artist, known for her monologues on topics mainly related to gender, sexuality, race and religion. 

Vanessa Reed (UK) Is the chief executive of PRS Foundation and founder of Keychange.
